A question always asked to us is, "How does Tend Skin®work on razor bumps and ingrown hairs?"
We have been working with Tend Skin® since 1985. We continue to be amazed every time someone affirms the product's effectiveness. No other product in the world can do all that Tend Skin® does, especially when it comes to ingrown hairs and razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae, PFB).
Razor bumps are created when the growing beard hair exits the skin, curls over and burrows into the adjacent skin. This creates a foreign body reaction resulting in an unsightly "bump".
Ingrown hairs form when hairs grow back after shaving, waxing, electrolysis or other hair removal method and fail to grow out of the skin. The hairs curl over inside the follicles under the skin (just like the "razor bumps" hairs curl above the skin). By, curling the hair creates a foreign body reaction in the hair follicle. The inflammation in the follicle then creates an unsightly "bump".
Tend Skin® is believed to work on ingrown and razor bumps as follows:
1. Application of Tend Skin® causes an increased fluid ingress into the skin.
2. This ingress increases the fluid pressure or "turgor" under the skin.
3. The increased turgor tends to "squeeze" the hair follicles.
4. The squeezing of the follicles decreases the diameter of the follicles. This means there is less room in the interior of the follicles.
5. Squeezing the follicles forces ingrown hairs to exit the pores and thus, grow above the skin's surface. With razor bumps, curled hairs are forced to "lift out" of the skin when their follicles are squeezed.
